Vietnamese badminton officially has no representatives left at the 2025 World Championships.

Nonetheless, Nguyễn Thùy Linh and her team showed an impressive display at the current World Badminton Championships.

Vietnam's badminton journey at the 2025 World Championships in France concluded after Nguyễn Thùy Linh's match against Olympic champion Chen Yufei early this morning on August 29th, Hanoi time.

Although Thùy Linh gave her best effort, she was unable to cause an upset and suffered a relatively quick 0-2 defeat. The top Vietnamese player started each game well; however, as her opponent increased the pace, she became passive and repeatedly lost points, leading to a clear loss by a wide margin.

This marks Nguyễn Thùy Linh's third time losing to Chen Yufei in Tour events.

Earlier, the other five members of the Vietnamese badminton team had been eliminated in the first and second rounds of men's singles, women's singles, and men's doubles. The most prominent name after Nguyễn Thùy Linh, Lê Đức Phát, was defeated in his opening men's singles match by Julien Carraggi. Despite missing a chance to win the first game and leveling the score later, Đức Phát lost heavily in the deciding game.

Đức Phát's close teammate, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, faced a tough opponent in his first match: Alwi Farhan, the 2023 World Junior Champion and this year's Macau Open winner. Hải Đăng played well and came close to winning the first game but couldn't maintain his advantage and was completely outplayed in the second game.

Although Vũ Thị Trang no longer competes frequently internationally, she left a strong impression at this year's World Championships.

Meanwhile, Vũ Thị Trang and the men's doubles pair Nguyễn Đình Hoàng/Trần Đình Mạnh both advanced past the first round with straight-game wins. However, in the following round, facing strong opponents Gao Fangjie and Lee Jhe-huei/Yang Po-hsuan respectively, our representatives were unable to pull off any surprises.

Historically, Vietnamese badminton has had medalists at the World Championships, none other than the legend Nguyễn Tiến Minh. At the 2013 tournament, Tiến Minh impressively won the bronze medal in men's singles alongside Du Pengyu, while the gold and silver medals went to Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei respectively.
