As per the most recent September 23 update of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, Nguyễn Thùy Linh remains ranked 17th.
The latest September 23 ranking for women's singles by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) shows Nguyễn Thùy Linh still holding the 17th spot globally.
This remains the highest ranking ever achieved by a Vietnamese badminton player on the international ranking list, despite the country’s top player withdrawing from the 2025 Masters in China due to injury.
Previously, Thùy Linh performed excellently at the 2025 Vietnam International Badminton Open in Ho Chi Minh City, finishing as the runner-up in women's singles. However, in China, she had to exit early in the first round due to severe pain in her foot and ankle, which prevented her from continuing. The 27-year-old athlete is currently recovering and will undergo thorough medical checks upon returning to Vietnam.
Thùy Linh also did not participate in the 2025 National Excellent Racket Badminton Tournament currently held in Gia Lai. Her absence from this domestic event is to allow more time for recovery, aiming at bigger goals later in the year, especially the 33rd SEA Games.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese badminton team affirmed that they will closely monitor Thùy Linh’s injury condition to plan her competitions wisely, ensuring it does not impact her long-term career.
Among the female players, Vũ Thị Trang dropped 5 places to rank 143rd in the world. This experienced athlete has not been performing well recently, exiting early at the 2025 Vietnam Open and failing to reach the semifinals. The decline in results has directly affected her ranking.
On the men's side, Nguyễn Hải Đăng, currently Vietnam’s top player, fell 3 places to 64th in the world. Meanwhile, Lê Đức Phát slipped one spot to 95th. Both are competing at the 2025 National Excellent Racket Badminton Tournament and will continue to participate in several international tournaments in October and November to accumulate points and experience before the 33rd SEA Games.
