Following several forgettable encounters with Nguyễn Hải Đăng, Lê Đức Phát has at last secured a win.
Vietnam’s second-ranked male badminton player, Lê Đức Phát, won the 2025 National Outstanding Players Badminton Championship by beating Nguyễn Hải Đăng 2-0 (25-23; 21-15) this morning on September 27th.
The first game was extremely exciting and intense; Hải Đăng used his agility and skillful play to challenge Đức Phát as usual, but Đức Phát responded powerfully with high-quality smashes.
Both players maintained a closely contested match until the final points, with Đức Phát performing better in the crucial moments to narrowly win 25-23 and take a 1-0 lead.
In the second game, Nguyễn Hải Đăng was unable to keep up his performance and made several unnecessary errors. Đức Phát took advantage of this opportunity to pull ahead, gradually widening the gap and securing a convincing 2-0 victory, thus winning this year’s national outstanding players badminton title.
In recent matches against Hải Đăng, Đức Phát had been at a disadvantage. The army-affiliated player lost to Hải Đăng in the Malaysia Masters qualifiers, the first round of the Canada Open, and the national individual championship final just over a month ago. This important win will greatly boost the confidence of the 1998-born athlete in upcoming tournaments.
The 2025 National Outstanding Players Championship took place in Gia Lai from September 21st to 27th. The tournament gathered almost all of Vietnam’s top badminton players, except Nguyễn Thùy Linh, who was sidelined due to an injury sustained during her opening match at the 2025 China Masters.
