Nguyễn Thùy Linh is at risk of dropping out of the world’s top 20 badminton players.

Nguyễn Thùy Linh is set to come back to the BWF World Tour events at the beginning of November.

Vietnam’s number one badminton player, Nguyễn Thùy Linh, has slipped in the latest BWF (Badminton World Federation) rankings updated today, October 14.

Accordingly, Thùy Linh dropped one spot in the world badminton rankings, falling to 19th place with 48,630 accumulated points. The player from Phú Thọ is more than 4,000 points behind her career-best rank of 17th in the world.

Thùy Linh did not participate in recent BWF World Tour tournaments, so it is not surprising that her ranking on the BWF leaderboard has been affected. The 1997-born athlete suffered an injury in the first round of last month’s Super 750 China Masters and is still in the process of recovering her fitness.

The "Vietnamese Badminton Beauty Queen" did not compete in the Suwon Victor Korea Open, Arctic Open, Denmark Open, French Open, and Hylo Open. She is expected to return at the Iksan Korea Masters 2025, starting in early November, so the risk of Vietnam’s top player falling out of the world top 20 is quite high.

During her break in Vietnam, Thùy Linh defended her Master’s thesis at Bac Ninh University of Sports and received many warm congratulations from fans.

The 2025 season has been successful for Nguyễn Thùy Linh, who represents Đồng Nai. She won silver medals at two Super 300 tournaments: the German Open and Canada Open; finished as runner-up at the Vietnam Open; continuously improved her playing style; and performed well against top players. Thùy Linh also reached her career-best world ranking of 17th.
