Los Angeles Dodgers' two-way star Shohei Ohtani was struck by a line drive during his pitching appearance two days ago. After resting for a day, Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said today that Ohtani is fine and has completed his outing. He also talked about the possible date for Ohtani’s next pitching appearance.
“The swelling has reduced, he’s in good spirits today, and I know he’s eager to return to the game,” Roberts said before today’s game against the San Diego Padres when asked about Ohtani’s condition.
Ohtani’s previous pitching appearance was on the 21st, when he threw 66 pitches over 4 innings, gave up 9 hits and 5 runs, and was hit by a line drive on his right thigh. However, he continued to pitch through the 4 innings and even came up to bat in the top of the 5th inning before leaving the game.
Yesterday, Ohtani did not play as a batter, but that was a scheduled rest day before the game. After a day of rest, Roberts said Ohtani is in good condition and has returned to the starting lineup today.
Regarding whether Ohtani will pitch again soon, Roberts smiled and said, "Pitcher Ohtani is fine." When asked about the date of his next start, Roberts pondered several possible dates and finally said, "Probably Wednesday (August 28, Beijing time). Your question is too far ahead; I haven’t thought that far yet."
According to the schedule, on August 28, the Los Angeles Dodgers are set to host the Cincinnati Reds at home.
