The sports collectibles market has reaffirmed the legendary standing of NBA stars Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. The 2007-08 Upper Deck Exquisite Collection "Dual Logoman" signed patch card has now officially become the most expensive athlete card ever sold, fetching an astonishing $12.93 million (about 93.74 million RMB), breaking the baseball card record.
This card is the only dual Logoman card featuring both Jordan and Bryant, with Jordan’s jersey patch from the 1996-97 season, which marked the NBA’s 50th anniversary and coincided with Kobe’s rookie year.
The previous baseball card record was held by Mickey Mantle’s 1952 Topps card, which sold for $12.6 million three years ago. Beyond authenticity and historical significance, the most crucial factor is the card’s condition. Even if a card is extremely rare, it must have a very high grading score to reach such a price.
The most expensive basketball jersey ever is Jordan’s 1998 Finals “Last Dance” jersey, which sold for $10.09 million three years ago, with prices expected to rise further. Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” jersey from the 1932 World Series sold last year for $24.12 million (about 175 million RMB), currently the priciest sports collectible.
