Brewers' closer Megill placed on injured list; Warriors' former player Fedde signed

The Milwaukee Brewers, MLB's top team, have added All-Star closer Trevor Megill to the 15-day injured list and signed Erick Fedde, who was just released by the Atlanta Braves three days prior, to cope with their demanding schedule of 19 games over 18 days.

Trevor Megill, 31, is suffering from a right arm flexor strain related to pitching. This is his fifth season in the major leagues, during which he appeared in 49 games, pitched 46 innings, recorded a 5-3 win-loss record, achieved 30 saves, posted an ERA of 2.54 and a WHIP of 1.152, and struck out 58 batters. He was selected for the All-Star Game for the first time in his career this year.

Currently, Trevor Megill shares third place on the MLB saves leaderboard with Seattle Mariners’ Andres Munoz, trailing only Carlos Estevez of the Kansas City Royals and Robert Suarez of the San Diego Padres, both with 35 saves. However, possibly due to his injury, Megill has blown three saves in his last four appearances.

Facing a heavy schedule, the Brewers signed starting right-hander Erick Fedde and immediately added him to the roster. The 32-year-old Fedde is in his eighth MLB season and briefly played for the NC Dinos in the Korean Baseball Organization in 2023. Last year, he signed a two-year, $15 million contract with the Chicago White Sox but was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in July. On May 9 this year, he threw his first career complete game shutout against his debut team, the Washington Nationals. However, since late June, Fedde has frequently failed to pitch the minimum five innings in starts and gave up many runs. He was designated for assignment on July 23, traded to the Braves four days later, struggled in the rotation, and was released on August 24. This year, he has appeared in 25 games, 24 as a starter, pitching 125 innings with a 4-12 record, a 5.76 ERA, a 1.568 WHIP, 76 strikeouts, 60 walks, and 3 hit batters.

Erick Fedde is expected to be briefly placed in the rotation because 23-year-old rookie right-hander Logan Henderson was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
