Robert has been placed on the injured list due to a left hamstring injury and may miss the remainder of the White Sox's 2025 season.

Luis Robert Jr. may have completed his last game for the White Sox in the 2025 season.

Yet according to general manager Chris Getz’s remarks before today’s finale against the Royals, this five-tool center fielder seems unlikely to have played his final game for the team.

“We have a lot of confidence in Luis,” Getz said regarding Robert, who was placed on the 10-day injured list today with a left hamstring strain. “Looking back at everything he’s done for us, even before the second half started. He performed well against left-handed pitching and showed flashes against righties too. Consider his defense and baserunning. He’s demonstrated what he’s capable of. He can be a huge boost to this lineup and the entire team.

“Injuries are part of the game. Unfortunately, they have also been part of his history. But he’s made a real impact on the team and the league. Many of his high-quality performances have come during the second half. Given what he’s capable of, his talent, and the influence he can have on the team, we really like having Luis Robert here with us.”

Robert suffered a grade 2 hamstring strain during the second inning of yesterday’s 4-5 loss to the Royals, when he was running to first base on a groundout. He was replaced defensively by Michael A. Taylor in the fourth inning, and an MRI later confirmed the injury.

According to Getz, this injury will sideline Robert for “several weeks.” With only 29 games remaining after today, there isn’t much time for Robert to recover and return.

“So, it’s very likely he won’t be back before the season ends. Our current priority is to take care of his hamstring,” Getz said. “This is unfortunate news. As you can imagine, Luis is very disappointed. Obviously, this is a blow to us because he’s been playing so well lately.

“His resurgence in the second half has been clear to see. He’s impacting our team, and a lot of our wins are thanks to Luis Robert’s outstanding performance on both offense and defense. In Sunday’s game, I saw one of the best center field games I’ve ever witnessed from him… but for now, we will focus on getting him healthy and ready to return, or prepare him for next season.”

Since the All-Star break, Robert has posted a slash line of .298/.352/.456 over 31 games, contributing 5 home runs, 18 RBIs, 24 runs scored, and 11 stolen bases. This season, against left-handed pitching in 113 plate appearances, he’s hit .258/.369/.473 with 6 home runs and 16 RBIs.

During Robert’s six-year tenure with the White Sox, he has experienced offensive highs—such as 38 home runs, 36 doubles, and 20 stolen bases in 145 games in 2023—as well as struggles, like those shown in the first three months of the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

Robert’s defense, baserunning, work ethic, and clubhouse presence are all excellent. Therefore, it’s no surprise the White Sox didn’t trade him at the deadline and exercised a $20 million team option for 2026. This doesn’t rule out a possible trade during the upcoming offseason, but as Getz hinted, the White Sox value having Robert as a core player on the field.

“He plays with great effort,” White Sox manager Will Venable said about Robert. “Every time I tell him he has a day off, he argues with me. That’s just because he wants to be out there, he wants to compete hard, set the tone for his teammates, and give his all. It would be tough without him.”

Outfielder Will Robertson has been recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to fill Robert’s roster spot.

“Just considering his defensive and baserunning floor, he already offers tremendous value,” Getz said about Robert. “Then there’s obviously the ability to hit as many home runs as he did in 2023, but he doesn’t need to do that to improve this team. That speaks to what a dynamic player he is, and we will continue to support him.”
