"Wind's Son" Lee Zhenghou hits a walk-off single in the ninth inning; Giants sweep Cubs to celebrate a fifth consecutive win

The San Francisco Giants continued their home series against the Chicago Cubs today (29th), playing the final game of their recent three-game set. Giants' Willy Adames hit two home runs in a single game, and “Wind's Son” Lee Zhenghou delivered a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth, leading the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs. The Giants not only completed a series sweep but also extended their winning streak to five games.

The Giants started their ace Logan Webb against the Cubs’ strong Japanese pitcher Shota Imanaga, but both pitchers gave up runs in the first inning. Webb allowed a double to Kyle Tucker and then gave up an RBI hit to Ian Happ, conceding one run. Imanaga, in the bottom half of the inning, was hit by Adames for a two-run homer, turning the score around. In the top of the second inning, the Cubs responded with Dansby Swanson hitting his 19th solo home run of the season, tying the game at 2-2.

The Cubs actually had chances to stop their losing streak in this game. Michael Busch hit a solo home run off Webb in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead, but in the bottom half, Imanaga couldn’t hold off Adames, who blasted his second home run of the game, tying the score once again.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Giants refused to go into extra innings. Although Cubs’ Daniel Palencia first retired Matt Chapman, Casey Schmitt and Wilmer Flores followed with consecutive hits. Lee Zhenghou seized the moment, breaking through the Cubs’ defense with a beautiful walk-off single that brought home pinch-runner Christian Koss, securing a one-run victory and completing the Giants’ sweep of the Cubs.
