The Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Chicago Cubs with three home runs to claim their second win in the series.

In the MLB National League Division Series playoffs, the Milwaukee Brewers continued their matchup against the Chicago Cubs today (October 7). During game two, the Brewers' offense erupted again, launching three home runs to win 7-3, gaining a 2-0 advantage in the series.

In the first inning, Cubs' Japanese player Seiya Suzuki hit a three-run homer to left field with runners on first and second, quickly giving his team a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom half, the Brewers responded immediately. Cubs starter Shota Imanaga struck out two batters in a row, but William Contreras and Christian Yelich followed with hits to put runners on first and second. Then Andrew Vaughn blasted a three-run homer, tying the score at 3-3.

In the bottom of the third, the Brewers struck again as Contreras hit a solo home run to left field to take the lead. In the fourth inning, the Cubs brought in Daniel Palencia to pitch. Although he issued a hit-by-pitch to Caleb Durbin and got two outs, Joey Ortiz got a hit, followed by Jackson Chourio’s three-run homer, extending the lead to 7-3. The Cubs then replaced Palencia with Drew Pomeranz to finish the inning.

Shota Imanaga pitched only 2.2 innings, giving up 5 hits including 2 home runs, allowing 4 earned runs, striking out 3, and taking the loss. His postseason ERA rose to 8.10.

After that, both teams’ offenses quieted down. In the top of the eighth inning, the Brewers brought in Trevor Megill to replace Jared Koenig, who successfully retired the side without allowing the Cubs to reach base.

The Brewers employed a pitching rotation strategy in this game. Spot starter Aaron Ashby pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 3 runs before exiting. Several relievers then held the line, with a total of 7 pitchers used, allowing only 4 hits by the Cubs, 2 of which came in the first inning. Rookie fireballer Jacob Misiorowski pitched 3 innings to earn the win.

Finally, Abner Uribe came in during the top of the ninth and preserved the victory. The Brewers defeated the Cubs 7-3 again, leading the series 2-0 and just one win away from advancing. The next game will shift to the Cubs’ home field, Wrigley Field in Chicago.
