Hitting three home runs in a dire situation, the Tigers staged a comeback at home against the Mariners and will decide the outcome in Game 5.

In Game 4 of the AL Division Series, the Detroit Tigers staged an incredible turnaround at home. The Seattle Mariners had maintained the lead for most of the game, but from the bottom of the 5th inning, the Tigers erupted with 7 runs in two innings to surpass them, finishing with a 9-3 victory that tied the series 2-2 and forced a winner-takes-all Game 5.

The Mariners continued their hot streak from the previous game, scoring one run each in the 2nd, 4th, and 5th innings through consecutive hits, while the Tigers struggled in the first four innings with only two hits and no runners reaching scoring position. However, trailing 0-3 in the bottom of the 5th, the Tigers finally awakened, hitting four singles (including two doubles) to score three runs and tie the game.

In the bottom of the 6th, Tigers leadoff hitter Riley Greene swung at the second pitch and launched a solo home run, putting the team ahead 4-3. This was only the third postseason home run for the Tigers in their last seven games. The offense didn’t stop there; they followed with three more consecutive hits adding another run, and after two outs, Javier Báez hit a two-run homer to extend the lead to four runs. In the bottom of the 7th, Gleyber Torres also joined in with a home run, pushing the score to 8-3.

The Tigers racked up 9 runs in total, setting a postseason single-game scoring record for the team since Game 6 of the 1968 World Series against the Cardinals. With the series tied 2-2, both teams will face off on the 11th in Game 5, where the winner will advance to the American League Championship Series.
