In the second game of the American League Division Series in the MLB playoffs, the Seattle Mariners continued their road challenge against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Mariners’ offense was outstanding, launching three home runs and winning 10-3, gaining a 2-0 advantage in the seven-game series.
Right from the first inning, the Mariners showed their offensive strength. Randy Arozarena reached base after being hit by a pitch, Cal Raleigh drew a walk, and then Julio Rodríguez crushed a high forkball over the left-field wall, giving the Mariners a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Jays immediately responded in the first inning. Leadoff hitter George Springer hit a double, Nathan Lukes followed with a hit to score a run, and after a first baseman’s error, Lukes advanced to second. Although Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded out, moving runners up to third, Alejandro Kirk’s hit brought in another run, narrowing the Blue Jays’ deficit to 2-3.
In the bottom of the second inning, Springer and Lukes teamed up again to create another scoring opportunity, allowing the Blue Jays to tie the game at 3-3.
The pitchers then battled until the top of the fifth inning when the Mariners’ offense reignited. Arozarena got a hit, Raleigh was intentionally walked, and with runners on first and second, Jorge Polanco hit a three-run homer to put the Mariners back in front.
In the top of the sixth, Mitch Garver hit a triple, and J.P. Crawford followed with a hit to bring in a run, extending the lead to 7-3.
In the top of the seventh, Polanco got another hit, and Josh Naylor took advantage of a wild pitch by Blue Jays pitcher Braydon Fisher to hit a two-run homer, pushing the score to 9-3. The Blue Jays then brought in Yariel Rodríguez to pitch.
However, Rodríguez struggled with control, issuing three consecutive walks before being replaced by Chris Bassitt. After a 10-pitch battle, Crawford hit a sacrifice fly that scored the Mariners’ tenth run.
In the bottom of the ninth, Emerson Hancock closed out the game successfully, securing the victory. The Mariners defeated the Blue Jays 10-3, leading the series 2-0, and will return to Seattle aiming to advance to the World Series.
