The Mariners are just two wins away from the World Series—can the Blue Jays still stage a comeback?

The ALCS has moved to the Pacific Northwest, with the Seattle Mariners riding a powerful wave as they aim for their franchise’s inaugural World Series berth. After dominating the Toronto Blue Jays on the road in the first two games, they hold a 2-0 series lead. Returning to T-Mobile Park, the city is buzzing with anticipation. Despite the Blue Jays facing elimination, former Yankees legend "A-Rod" Alex Rodriguez expressed confidence on a broadcast, insisting the Blue Jays “are not done yet,” and motivated the team by quoting lines from the movie Rocky IV.

In Game 2 of the series, Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez blasted a three-run homer in the first inning to set the tone, leading the team to a decisive 10-3 victory. At just 24 years old, Rodríguez continues to be a key offensive force in the playoffs, embodying the new generation of leadership for the team. After the game, he excitedly told FOX Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal, “I expected the atmosphere to be full of energy and passion just like the whole postseason. The fans can’t wait for us to play game three at home—it’s going to be wild.”

Since September, Seattle has been in scorching form, surging forward relentlessly. Now, they are only two wins away from reaching the World Series for the first time in their 49-year history—an unprecedented milestone. Over the past two decades, they have made the playoffs just four times and won a total of 17 games. Standing on the brink of history now symbolizes the dawn of a brand-new era for the Mariners.

The Blue Jays suffered back-to-back home losses in the first two games, including a heavy 3-10 defeat in Game 2, placing them in a precarious position. However, Alex Rodriguez remains optimistic on the broadcast, encouraging the team by saying this squad, which had the best regular-season record in the American League, “is far from finished.”

He used a boxing movie analogy: “One of my favorite films is Rocky IV. The Russian boxing champion seemed unbeatable at first, but in the end, everyone saw that he could be knocked down.” Rodriguez further explained, “The Blue Jays have been like a heavyweight champ all season, basking in glory after beating the Yankees. But when they got hit hard by the opponent, they started to hesitate and falter. I believe this day of rest will help them regroup, and they’ll come back stronger.”

The Blue Jays’ main issue has been their pitching staff’s inability to contain the Mariners’ hot offense. Young starter Trey Yesavage struggled in Game 2, lasting only four innings while giving up six runs, including three-run homers from Julio Rodríguez and Jorge Polanco. The Blue Jays fought to catch up throughout the game but ultimately fell short.
