Shohei Ohtani is scheduled to start as the pitcher in Game 4; if the series extends to Game 7, he might appear as a reliever.

Before Game 2 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed the starting pitcher assignments for the games back in Los Angeles. Tyler Glasnow is set to start Game 3, with Shohei Ohtani taking the mound in Game 4, and potentially pitching in relief if the series goes to Game 7.

Roberts mentioned yesterday that the team had finalized the starters for the next two games but was not ready to disclose the information publicly. However, at today’s pregame press conference, when asked about Ohtani’s pitching schedule, he directly confirmed, “Ohtani will pitch Game 4, and Glasnow will start Game 3.”

Ohtani last started on October 5 (Beijing time) and will take the mound again after a 12-day rest. Glasnow last pitched on October 10 and will return after six days of rest.

Roberts previously stated that the team would not specifically schedule Ohtani to pitch only on days with rest. The starting rotation for this NLCS was planned by considering the overall pitching rhythm for the entire staff.

Regarding why Glasnow is pitching Game 3 and Ohtani Game 4, Roberts explained, “Ohtani’s rest is sufficient, and this setup allows him the possibility to pitch in relief if the series reaches Game 7. Tyler is starting Game 3 because his rest days align well with the usual rotation.”
