The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays clashed today in the third game of the ALCS. With a 2-0 advantage, the Mariners stumbled as the Blue Jays unleashed a powerful offense, collecting 18 hits with 5 home runs. Despite the Mariners hitting 3 homers themselves, their offense was fragmented, leading to a 13-4 defeat and the Blue Jays closing the series gap to 1-2.
The Mariners struck first in the game’s opening inning when Julio Rodríguez launched a two-run homer to center field. However, the Blue Jays’ bats came alive in the top of the third inning, starting with Andrés Giménez’s two-run homer to tie the game, followed by Daulton Varsho’s bases-loaded double that drove in five runs, flipping the momentum.
The Blue Jays extended their lead in the fourth and fifth innings as George Springer and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. each hit home runs, pushing the advantage to 8-2. The offense remained strong in the sixth inning when Alejandro Kirk added a three-run homer to right field, sealing the victory. Addison Barger also contributed with a solo shot to right field in the top of the ninth, completing the Blue Jays’ total of 18 hits including 5 home runs.
Although the Mariners managed to score two runs in the bottom of the eighth through back-to-back home runs by Randy Arozarena and Cal Raleigh, the deficit was too large to overcome. Ultimately, the Blue Jays won decisively, 13-4.
Starting pitcher for the Blue Jays, former American League Cy Young winner Shane Bieber, pitched six innings, allowing four hits including one home run, giving up two earned runs (both from J-Rod’s two-run homer), striking out eight, and issuing one walk, earning the win. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was outstanding at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run among his hits.
