The new head coach of the Los Angeles Angels is not Pujols but a retired Japanese-American player.

During the offseason, the Los Angeles Angels searched for a new coach. Just yesterday, they announced that the legendary slugger "Pujols" Albert Pujols would not be the coaching candidate, and today they immediately confirmed the hiring of former Japanese-American catcher Kurt Suzuki, who will also become the first Hawaiian to serve as a head coach in Major League Baseball history.

After this season ended, the Angels decided to part ways with former head coach Ron Washington. Last week, it was reported that they interviewed Pujols, who currently serves as a special assistant for the Angels, but on the 21st, it was revealed that no agreement was reached after discussions, leaving Pujols without his first head coaching job. On the 22nd, the Angels promptly announced that for the new season, Kurt Suzuki, who was also a special assistant for the team, would take over as head coach.

At 42 years old, Kurt Suzuki was an All-Star in 2014 and helped the Washington Nationals win the championship in the 2019 season. He spent 16 years in the major leagues, finishing his last two seasons with the Angels, and stayed with the team after retiring. Although he has no prior professional coaching experience, it was announced today that he will lead the Angels next season. Suzuki, born in Hawaii and of Japanese-American descent, becomes the league's first Hawaiian head coach.
