MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reports that starting pitcher Lucas Giolito is currently among the elite pitchers on the free agent market, attracting interest from "several teams," with the Detroit Tigers specifically identified as a possible suitor.
Giolito missed the entire 2024 season due to right elbow surgery but made a strong comeback last year, pitching 145 innings for the Boston Red Sox with an ERA of 3.41. Now 31 years old, he is about to enter a new phase in his career.
Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press recently reported that besides Giolito, the Tigers are also keeping an eye on other free agent starting pitchers like Nick Martinez, Chris Bassitt, and Jose Quintana.
If Giolito ultimately signs with the Tigers, he will be reunited with his high school teammate Jack Flaherty.
