Joe Ryan and the Minnesota Twins have agreed to terms, confirming that salary arbitration will be avoided. The team announced today that they have inked a one-year deal with mutual options for the 2027 season.
According to MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand, who obtained information from sources, Ryan will earn a salary of $6.1 million in 2026, with a mutual option valued at $13 million and a buyout of $100,000. This guarantees Ryan at least $6.2 million in total income. The team has yet to officially release the contract details.
Ryan’s 2026 salary exactly matches the midpoint between the salary figures exchanged earlier this month, with the team initially offering $5.85 million and Ryan’s side requesting $6.35 million.
The Twins have a policy of not negotiating one-year contracts after exchanging arbitration salary figures. This contract, featuring a mutual option, satisfies the player’s security needs while adhering to the team’s policy.
At 29 years old, Ryan just completed his best season, pitching a career-high 171 innings with a 13-10 record, a 3.42 ERA, 194 strikeouts, and only 38 walks. Regardless of whether the mutual option is exercised, the team control will extend through the 2027 season, with Ryan expected to become a free agent following that year.
