The San Francisco Giants have been persistently looking to reinforce their second base spot during the entire offseason, and today they have confirmed their target. ESPN journalist Jorge Castillo reported that the Giants have agreed on a one-year deal with three-time batting champion Luis Arraez.
Reports indicate that the Giants previously explored trades for Brendan Donovan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Nico Hoerner of the Chicago Cubs, and CJ Abrams of the Washington Nationals, but ultimately turned to 28-year-old Arraez. Known for his exceptional hitting control, Arraez boasts a career batting average of .317 over seven seasons with the Minnesota Twins, Miami Marlins, and San Diego Padres, ranking first among active players.
In the past two seasons, Arraez led the National League in hits, and his outstanding hitting skills have been highly valued by Giants’ baseball operations president Buster Posey (another former National League batting champion). Since Posey took charge of the team’s baseball operations, he has regarded this kind of hitting ability as a fundamental building block for the team.
