Los Angeles Dodgers' Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki attended the team's fan festival (DodgerFest) today, sharing with fans after a long absence that his preparation for the new season is progressing well and that he will fully commit to spring training to compete for a starting rotation role.
Sasaki stated that although his form improved toward the end of last season, there are still many issues to address throughout the entire season: "The results at the season's end were good, but personally, there are many areas that require reflection. After reviewing, my preparation is going smoothly now."
Regarding his return to a starting role, he emphasized the importance of reducing physical strain and enhancing overall functionality: "First, I need to optimize my pitching mechanics to avoid unnecessary wear, and second, strengthen my physical conditioning. This involves not only pitching technique but also body adjustments, such as restoring my hips to a neutral position and generating power from that stance. I have already begun live pitching practice."
In the new season, Sasaki will compete for a starting rotation spot from the start of spring training, just as he did at the beginning of last year. He candidly said, "It also depends on the team's evaluation; I have to earn my place through my performance. I will give my all starting from spring training."
Regarding the World Baseball Classic held in March, Sasaki has chosen to temporarily set aside thoughts of participation and focus entirely on preparing for the season. He admitted, "Of course, I desire to play on such a special stage, and I really wanted to take part this time, but it is the team's decision. Therefore, I am concentrating solely on season preparation. My position is still not guaranteed, and I need to deliver strong results in spring training to secure a rotation spot."
As Sasaki approaches his second season with the Dodgers, he will once again engage in fierce competition for a starting role, aiming to prove himself through his performance and secure a stable position in the new season.
