The Los Angeles Dodgers' official media outlet, Dodgers Nation, released a report today focusing on team president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman's views regarding Dodgers players competing in the World Baseball Classic (WBC).
The article disclosed the management’s decision-making process. Friedman said, "We completely understand the pride players have in playing for their nations in this event. When communicating with players, it is crucial to maintain a cooperative approach while also assessing their current physical condition, personal willingness, and how to prepare for the games in the best possible way.”
According to the currently announced roster, Dodgers' Japanese stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, along with Korean player Kim Hyeseong and catcher Will Smith, have all confirmed their participation. Regarding this, Friedman admitted, "We have developed a long-term plan that spans the October regular season and playoffs, but what will happen during February and March (the Classic period)? How to balance player usage and maintain their condition is the key challenge.”
Friedman emphasized that the Dodgers are a team aiming for a three-peat World Series championship, and management must engage in thorough and effective communication with the players. "Ultimately, our relationship with the players is one of mutual support." The full World Baseball Classic roster is expected to be officially announced via live broadcast at 8 a.m. Beijing time this Friday (February 6).
