An 18-year-old pitcher unleashes a 101 mph fastball, knocking off the helmet of the league's No. 5 prospect.

Today at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium, a gust of wind was created by the 100.8 mph fastball from 18-year-old Miguel Sime Jr., which directly blew off the helmet of the league's No. 5 prospect, JJ Wetherholt.

In a spring training exhibition game where the Washington Nationals lost 8-9 to the St. Louis Cardinals, Sime (the Nationals' No. 16 prospect) faced Wetherholt (the Cardinals' top prospect) in the second inning. Sime initially fell behind 0-3 after a timeout violation and two consecutive 100+ mph fastballs missed. However, he then used two cutter pitches to make Wetherholt swing, tenaciously working back in the count.

On a full count, Sime delivered a 100.8 mph high fastball that Wetherholt swung through forcefully; the elite prospect swung so hard that his helmet flew off.

Sime, drafted by the Nationals in the fourth round of 2025, hails from Poly Prep Country Day School in Brooklyn, New York. In his one inning of work, 9 of his 21 pitches exceeded 100 mph.
