Two wins, two homers, two victories – Trout leads the Los Angeles Angels to a two-game winning streak against the Houston Astros, returning to peak form.

The Los Angeles Angels have secured a two-game winning streak at the start of the season for the first time since 2007, and the hottest player in the lineup is undoubtedly superstar Mike Trout.

After the opening game where he had 1 hit in 2 at-bats with a home run, three walks, and one stolen base, Trout today at Houston’s Minute Maid Park recorded 3 hits in 4 at-bats, contributing a solo home run and a walk, helping the Angels win again 6–2 against the Astros. This three-time AL MVP and 11-time All-Star became the fifth player in team history to homer in both of the season’s first two games, following Chili Davis in 1996, Tim Salmon in 1995, Brian Downing in 1982, and Joe Rudi in 1980. This also marks the Angels’ first two-game winning streak at the start of a season on the road since 2004 in Seattle.

Trout, who debuted with the Angels in 2011, has never experienced a 2–0 start in his career. He said that although the season is still early, this kind of start feels good.

“I saw it,” Trout said, “It’s a good start to the new season. The past two games were team wins, everyone contributed. The pitchers pitched well, and the hitting was timely.”

With this performance, Trout became the second player in AL/NL history since Amos Otis of the Royals in 1977 to homer in both of the season’s first two games and reach base at least four times.

“He’s amazing,” manager Kurt Suzuki said, “Seeing him in the batter’s box, comfortable, confident, in good form.”

In his first at-bat against right-hander Mike Burrows, Trout hit a soft single that allowed Zach Neto to advance to third base, followed by Nolan Schanuel’s ground ball double play bringing in the first run. In the third inning, he hit a hard ground ball that bounced past the glove of shortstop Jeremy Peña into left field, with a sprint speed of 29.3 feet per second when running to first base, close to the elite threshold of 30 feet per秒 as defined by Statcast.

“Feeling good,” Trout said, “I’ve been maintaining my form. Feeling much better.”

This is his best running moment since the initial tear of the left knee meniscus in April 2024. During spring training this year, he reached 30 feet per second, a speed he never achieved last season due to bone bruising after left knee surgery.

In the fifth inning, Trout seized a 0–1 sinker from Burrows and launched a solo home run to left field, with an exit velocity of 109.7 mph and a distance of 403 feet. The previous day, he homered against reliever AJ Blubaugh for his fifth career opening-day home run.

The 34-year-old Trout credited hitting coaches Brady Anderson, Derek Florko, and John Mabry for helping him regain his former swing. Last season he experienced an inconsistent year, posting rare stats of .232/.359/.439 over 130 games with 26 homers and 64 RBIs, but his form improved toward the end, finally rediscovering his pitching mechanics. After returning from right field to center field last year, he felt more comfortable, although a bone bruise in April forced him to serve as designated hitter thereafter.

“I talked with the hitting coaches, just maintaining that routine,” Trout said, “My feeling on the field is good.”

Trout wasn’t the only Angels player to homer. Josh Lowe hit a crucial three-run homer in the second inning, and Neto added a solo shot in the eighth. Yoán Moncada walked, and Jo Adell hit a soft single, creating the opportunity for Lowe’s first homer with his new team.

For Lowe, the past month has been tough, as his mother Wendy passed away due to brain cancer. But he said that through faith he has remained strong. “I’ve gone through some unpleasant things in the past month, injuries and my mother’s passing, but I treat every game as if it’s my last and give my full effort. Today was a good day,” he said.
