New York Yankees pitcher Gil is set to return to the starting rotation.

The plan for Luis Gil to rejoin the New York Yankees starting rotation has been preliminarily confirmed, and he will be ready for the team's first game back at Tropicana Field. Yankees manager Aaron Boone announced the team's starting rotation schedule for the upcoming week prior to today's game against the Miami Marlins.

Gil is expected to start tomorrow for the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in their away game against Rochester. Boone stated that the right-handed pitcher will follow a normal rest interval and return to the team for next Saturday's away game against the Tampa Bay Rays in Florida.

The Yankees utilized rest days early in the season to begin the new campaign with a four-man starting rotation, only using Max Fried, Cam Schlittler, Will Warren, and Ryan Weathers.

This temporarily excluded Gil (who had a 4.66 ERA over 19.1 innings in spring training). Boone indicated that Gil will enter the rotation following Weathers.

Although Gil only started 11 games last season due to injury, he stated his goal is to surpass his 2024 statistics. That year, with 29 starts, a record of 15 wins and 7 losses, and a 3.50 ERA, he was honored as the American League Rookie of the Year.

The Yankees have not played at Tropicana Field since July 9-11, 2024. The stadium was damaged by Hurricane Milton in October 2024, forcing the Rays to relocate their 2025 home games to the Yankees' spring training facility, George M. Steinbrenner Field, in Tampa, Florida.
