Continuing their series against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Los Angeles Dodgers started Shohei Ohtani today. Ohtani gave up four runs over six innings, yet the lineup backed him up for a 5-4 win, marking his seventh victory of the season. Despite the win, manager Dave Roberts expressed strong displeasure over a particular element of the team's play afterward.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Dodgers loaded the bases with no outs, bringing Kyle Tucker to the plate. Tucker drew a walk to force in one run, but then Alex Call and Dalton Rushing both flied out, and Alex Freeland struck out to end the inning. The bases-loaded situation ultimately produced only a single run.
After the game, manager Roberts couldn't hide his anger when discussing the fifth-inning at-bats, saying, "Those three plate appearances were absolutely terrible—couldn't be any worse. We should have scored more runs."
Nevertheless, the Dodgers still won the game, defeating the Rays by a single run in each of the three-game series, extending their winning streak to three in a row.
