With Ahn Se Ying and doubles talents, the Korean badminton team is aiming for the 2025 Sudirman Cup title

The 2025 Sudirman Cup World Badminton Mixed Team Championships will kick off in Xiamen, China on the 27th, and the Chinese team seeking to win the title at home will face the biggest rival of neighboring South Korea. The "Tai Chi Tigers" South Korean team is in hot form this season, with women's singles world No. 1 Ahn Se-ying and three doubles talents, including men's doubles new powerhouses Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho are all selected for the squad, and are expected to launch a strong attack on the 2025 Xiamen Sudirman Cup World Badminton Mixed Team Championship.

Women's singles world No. 1 An Xiying

South Korea are the favourites to win the tournament in addition to host and defending champions China, and are second only to China (13 times) in the history of the Cup, having won the Cup four times in 1991, 1993, 2003 and 2017. Among them, South Korea ended China's consecutive championship record twice in 2003 and 2017, and it will be seen whether the Taiji Tiger can prevent China from dominating for 4 consecutive years.

South Korea's opponents in Group B are Chinese Taipei, Canada and the Czech Republic, with South Korea and Chinese Taipei favoured to qualify together, but Pan American champions Canada are also in the spotlight and could cause problems for the two favourites.

South Korea's three doubles men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles are all world-class, and the results have been immediate. Among them, Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho have won three men's doubles titles on this year's World Tour, including the All England Championships last month. In the upcoming Su Cup comprehensive strength test, the Taiji Tiger's lineup is enough to cope with the challenge and has the personnel reserve to impact the championship. For Paris Olympic women's singles champion An Se Ying, the Su Cup is one of the few major team titles she has yet to win. Considering that she has won four tournaments this year, she will undoubtedly be a key scorer for South Korea.

This season, South Korea has tweaked some of the original combinations. Seo Seung-jae (left) and Kim Won-ho have won three titles on this year's World Tour

In addition, Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho are not only a threat in Men's Doubles, but also flexible in Mixed Doubles. South Korea also have mature combinations in women's doubles and mixed doubles. The only weaker link is in the men's singles, as the team is currently relying on world No. 42 Jeon Yi Chen, as well as 143-ranked Cho Jian Ye and 202-ranked Lee Lun-gyu.

Over the past 10 years, Chinese Taipei has established itself as a powerhouse in the international badminton world. While it has the strength to challenge any of the top teams, the overall squad is not fully balanced in all five disciplines. In the absence of former world No. 1 "Little Dai" Tai Tzu Ying, the women's singles will be played by world No. 23 Xu Minqi and No. 24 Qiu Pinqian.

Chinese Taipei's strongest events are Men's Singles and Men's Doubles, including Chou Tien Cheng and Lin Jun Yi, Lee Zhehui and Yang Boxuan and Qiu Xiangpan and Wang Chi Lin. In addition, mixed doubles Yang Boxuan and Hu Ayafang also have the ability to grab points for the team.

Although Chinese Taipei is missing the former world No. 1 ball in this Su Cup, Dai Tzu Ying, there is still men's singles veteran Zhou Tiancheng in charge

Canada also has an overall well-balanced team that is competitive in all disciplines. Despite his poor form in Men's Singles this season, Yang Can could still pose a challenge to the strongest players in South Korea or Chinese Taipei. In women's singles, Li Wenshan broke into the top 4 in this year's Swiss Badminton Super 300 and Pan American Championships, which also provided firepower support for Canada in singles events.

In Mixed Doubles, Canada will be looking to Pan American champions Lindeman and Wu Wanling, a pair who have put a lot of tough names in the running world in recent years.
Canada also has considerable experience in other doubles events, including Men's Doubles with Li Jiawei and Lindeman and Lai Bingchan and Yakura Nair, and Women's Doubles with Dent and Lai Jingjing and Zhang Jiequelin and Choi Zhuoru.

The Czechs, as the "belly of the fish" in Group B, will be hoping to wreak havoc against the strong teams. Their men's singles Janlauda and Kraal and men's doubles Clare brothers are experienced, while the women's singles Swabikova has made a name for herself on the European stage.
