The 2025 Malaysia National Badminton Championships under 18 kicked off at the Perak Badminton Academy on the 23rd local time, with Teo Shumei from Kuala Lumpur and Yan Shizhen from Melaka both successful in the first round of the women's singles.

In the other first-round match, Ngan Shizhen also needed just over 20 minutes to defeat Kedah's Tan Ching N'e, 15-12, 15-7, and challenge Pahang's 9/16 seed Zhang Wanxin in the second round.
Tan Ching Nga's Kedah team-mate Ang Yan Ying defeated the Penang player 15-11, 15-12 to face the Badminton Association's Fa in the next round. Meanwhile, Lim Yew En from Selangor defeated Kuala Lumpur's Tien Ai Ming 15-7, 13-15, 15-6 in three games and 35 minutes to face Sarawak's Yeo Ching Hui in the second round.
According to the Malaysian media, it will be interesting to see how the likes of the World Junior Women's Doubles silver medallists Liu Ziyu and Tanya will adapt to the 3x15 format. It is reported that the Malaysia International Challenge from 12 to 17 August will also adopt a new scoring system. Meanwhile, the Malaysia U18 Championship will also provide a platform for badminton players to prove themselves and compete for a place at the Asian Youth Championships in Solo, Indonesia from July 18 to 27.
