The Dodgers took a cautious approach to left-handed pitcher Blake Snell, who was still struggling with his throwing shoulder and failed to resume passing and receiving as expected during the team's 10-game road trip.
Snell and right-hand pitcher Tyler Glasnow, who is also on the 15-day injury list with a shoulder inflammation, will be reviewed by the team doctor on Monday. Coach Dave Roberts said the team believes Snell needs a medical evaluation before resuming pitching.
Glasno started passing and receiving training last weekend. Roberts noted there was no indication of residual pain in his pitching shoulder.
When Snell entered the injury list on April 6, the Dodgers were optimistic about his short-term return. Concerns have risen, but the severity of them is unclear. "I'll be able to answer this question more accurately until he's examined by the team doctor," Roberts said.
Snell was initially asked to stop pitching for a week before resuming passing and finishing his bullpen practice. It was originally scheduled for a second bullpen training session during the away game in Chicago on April 23, but the plan was cancelled due to discomfort after passing the ball the day before.
Snell then received a shoulder pain injection and travelled with the team to Atlanta, Miami and Phoenix. The team had expected to resume passing and receiving during the Marlins' three-game game at loanDepot park, but did not do so due to being "unwell" at the time.
Snell started two games for the Dodgers before the injury and had a 2.00 ERA. The left-handed pitcher, who joined in the offseason on a five-year, $182 million contract, has yet to see a timetable for his return.
