Angels star Mike Trout will be activated from the 10-day injury list ahead of Friday's series opener against the Guardians, according to MLB.com sources. To make room on the roster, outfielder Matthew Lugo was sent to the Triple A Salt Lake City Bees on Thursday (all times are US time).
Trout, who has been on the injury list since May 2 (retroactive to May 1) with a contusion on his left knee bone, has had a light run on Tuesday and completed a real pitching test on Wednesday. After missing the team's last 26 games, he has now met all the conditions for a return. Trout had a batting average of just 0.179 (0.726 attack index) at the time of injury, but hit nine home runs in 29 games. The injury stemmed from an unbalanced footstep on April 30 at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, which resulted in a re-injury to his knee, which had undergone two surgeries.
If fit, Trout will be a boost to the Angels, who have lost five in a row (previously won eight). He will join shortstop Zach Neto and catcher Logan O'Hoppe. The Angels currently have a 25-30 record and are in fourth place in the American League West.
