Cal Raleigh isn't ready for the end of May. The Mariners catcher hit two more home runs in Friday's 12-6 home playoff loss to extend the league-led season to 21 home runs, continuing his historic long run streak.
Raleigh's three-pointer in the first game helped Seattle take the lead, and added two more points in the eighth game to extend the advantage. These two hits brought his May home run tally to 11 (10th-11th this month), second only to major league leader Shohei Ohtani (15 May/22 this season). At this pace, he is expected to hit 57 home runs by the end of the season and will easily set a single-season record for a full-time catcher. The opening of the first game made him the first catcher in MLB history to reach 20 hits by the end of May.
It was undoubtedly a shining month for Raleigh. And the best part? There is one last day left to break the record.
