MLB Network insider Jon Heyman revealed that the Yankees have engaged with the 6-foot-7 outfielder from the Pirates, although he noted that the asking price is steep. The 26-year-old Cruz has stolen 33 bases this season, tying for the league lead, and has also hit 16 home runs.

There are questions about Cruz's fit in the Yankees' lineup—Cody Bellinger is stationed in center field, while Anthony Volpe occupies shortstop (Cruz's original position)—but his combination of power and speed could inject new energy into the Yankees' lineup as they chase the AL East-leading Blue Jays.

MLB.com reporter Mark Feinsand cited sources stating that the Pirates are open to listening to offers but are not prioritizing a trade, and Pittsburgh needs to be thoroughly impressed by any proposal for them to consider letting him go, confirming Heyman's assertion of a high asking price.
