Markkanen scores 43 points, tying for 10th place in history! European Championship single-game scoring list: Terles leads with 63 points

On August 30th Beijing time, Finnish star Markkanen scored 43 points in the game against the UK, delivering his second outstanding 40+ point performance in the history of this event, equaling his personal record of 43 points achieved in the 2022 European Championship Round of 16 versus Croatia.

In the match against Britain, this NBA player scored 29 points in the first half alone and finished with 43 points, further solidifying his position on the tournament’s scoring leaderboard. The official European Championship social media also shared a cool poster of Markkanen (see below) to congratulate him.

However, the all-time single-game scoring record in the European Championship remains unbroken. It was set by Belgian player Eddy Terles, who scored 63 points in 1957. Terles passed away in 2013 at the age of 78.

Although Markkanen’s 43-point performance is still 20 points short of the 63-point record, it is the highest single-game score so far in this edition of the European Championship. The 28-year-old star had previously set a national team career high of 48 points in a warm-up game against Poland, showing he continues to be in great form during the main competition.

Among active players, the highest single-game scoring in the European Championship belongs to Doncic with 47 points, achieved in the last tournament against France.
