On September 6th Beijing time, the Thunder confirmed that their 15th pick center Thomas Sober sustained a serious right knee ACL tear during offseason workouts in Oklahoma City yesterday, ruling him out for the 2025-26 season. This marks the second consecutive year the Thunder have lost a first-round rookie to injury; last season, their 12th pick Topic missed the entire 2024-25 season due to the same ACL injury.
Nineteen-year-old Sober, the 15th overall pick in the 2025 draft, stands 2.08 meters tall. During the 2024-25 season at Georgetown University, he played 24 games, averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 53.2%. He ranked second on his team in scoring and was also second nationally among freshmen in rebounds.
Injury expert Stotts lamented that the Thunder have lost a rookie to an ACL tear for the second straight season. Last year, Topic missed the entire 2024-25 season after suffering an ACL tear in the Adriatic League finals.
The Thunder have officially confirmed that Sober will miss all games in the 2025-26 season, with further updates to be announced at the appropriate time.
