The Adelaide 36ers of the Australian NBL have dropped Harrell, and both parties have split. In May this year, Harrell agreed to a one-year contract extension with the 36ers. Last season, he contributed an average of 20.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for the team.
So why did he back out after the renewal was settled? Because in June this year, the CBA officially found Harrell guilty of using banned stimulants. To avoid uncontrollable situations, the 36ers decided to let him go.
In the latter part of the 24-25 season, after finishing his NBL stint, Harrell betrayed the Zhejiang team and took his talent to the Xinjiang team. He played eight regular-season games, averaging 18.8 minutes, 12.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists with a shooting accuracy of 58.6%. In the playoffs, he appeared in five games, averaging 16 minutes, 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, shooting 55% from the field.
From these stats, it’s clear that Harrell’s performance was disappointing and did not live up to his status as the team’s top foreign player. Even without the doping scandal, no CBA team would likely offer him a new contract.
Born on January 26, 1994, Harrell is now 31 years old. He is a power forward standing 2.01 meters tall with a 2.24-meter wingspan. He was the 2nd pick in the 15th round and has averaged 12.1 points, 5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 20.5 minutes per game during his NBA regular season career, while in the playoffs, he averaged 8.6 points and 2.8 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.
Throughout his NBA career, Harrell has played for the Rockets, Clippers, Lakers, Wizards, Hornets, and Philadelphia. During the 19-20 season with the Clippers, he was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 18.6 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game.
With his CBA and NBL careers now over, a return to the NBA is out of the question. The leagues where Harrell can earn money are dwindling. It is reported that he can only play in the Puerto Rican league, which is not under FIBA jurisdiction, or in the BIG3 league, which mainly features retired veterans.
No one denies that Harrell is a talented player, but character and professional integrity are equally important. Wishing him the best in his future endeavors.
