Reporter Stein:Westbrook has no desire to play abroad; his main objective is still to get back into the NBA.
According to previous insider Shams’ report, there is strong mutual interest between Westbrook and the Kings (9th place in the Western Conference last regular season). However, because of the Kings' salary cap restrictions, they have not been able to provide Westbrook with an appropriate contract, causing the delay in finalizing a formal deal.
During this summer’s offseason, Westbrook declined to exercise his $3.47 million player option for the 2025-26 season with the Nuggets and remains a full free agent. Meanwhile, there have been ongoing rumors about overseas clubs attempting to sign him. Moreover, a US reporter revealed, that a Chinese team offered Westbrook a half-season deal with a salary four times higher than what the Kings could offer.
Over his 17-year NBA career, Westbrook has earned a total salary of $346 million. Although he is nearly 37 years old, he still has plenty of energy left. Last season with the Nuggets, he averaged 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in the regular season, and posted 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in the playoffs.
If Westbrook fails to return to the NBA and remains unwilling to play overseas, retirement might be his only option left.
