On October 15th Beijing time, according to renowned reporter Stein, 52-year-old Kidd has signed a multi-year contract extension with the Dallas Mavericks. Over the past two offseasons, Kidd received offers from both the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks. The Knicks showed interest in Kidd while searching for a head coach, but the Mavericks refused to release him, leading many to expect Kidd would ultimately renew with Dallas.
Kidd was appointed head coach of the Mavericks in 2021, guided the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2022, and led them to the NBA Finals in 2024.
Before coaching the Mavericks, Kidd served as head coach for the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks, and later worked as an assistant coach for the Lakers.
Statistics show that Kidd has coached a total of 701 regular-season games with a 362-339 record, a 51.6% win rate, and 64 playoff games with a 31-33 record, a 48.4% win rate. He has been head coach of the Mavericks for four seasons, achieving a 179-149 regular-season record and a 22-18 playoff record.
During his playing career, Kidd competed in the NBA for 19 seasons, appearing in 1391 regular-season games with averages of 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 8.7 assists per game. He was a 10-time All-Star, 6-time All-NBA selection, 9-time All-Defensive team member, and won the championship with the Mavericks in 2011.
Last season, the Mavericks finished 39-43 and missed the playoffs. With the first overall pick in the draft selecting Flagg, can this team go further in the upcoming season?
