On October 23rd Beijing time, according to reporter Shams, sources told ESPN that Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was taken into custody early Thursday morning local time as part of an FBI investigation into sports betting. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York and FBI Director Kash Patel will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Eastern Time to announce details of the arrests related to this probe.

Previous reports indicated that Rozier’s gambling investigation mainly concerns the March 24, 2023 game between the Hornets and Pelicans.
ESPN’s report at the time revealed that a bettor placed 30 wagers on Rozier’s individual stats within 46 minutes, staking a total of $13,759 and winning all 30 bets for a payout of $13,017.70. Although Rozier was initially in the starting lineup for that game, he only played 10 minutes before leaving due to foot pain, despite not being listed on the injury report. At least six sportsbooks received unusual bets related to Rozier’s stats that day, mostly from Louisiana and Mississippi.
The NBA investigated these irregular betting activities and ultimately concluded that Rozier did not breach league rules. However, Rozier remains a subject of the federal investigation by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. His arrest now marks a new development in the case, with further details expected at the upcoming press briefing.
Rozier is a veteran with 10 years of NBA experience. The 31-year-old player had his best career season in 2022-23, averaging 21.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while playing for the Hornets.
He previously played for the Boston Celtics and is currently a member of the Miami Heat.
