On November 9th Beijing time, the Mavericks are positioned at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 2-7 record, having been defeated by the 1-8 Wizards and the 2-6 Pelicans. They also narrowly escaped a home loss against the 1-7 Pacers.

StatMuse data reveals that 26-year-old Doncic’s blocks this season exceed the Mavericks’ number of victories. This five-time All-Star has recorded 3 blocks so far this season, while the Mavericks have only managed 2 wins.
“Fun fact: Doncic has more blocks this season than the Mavericks have wins. Defense wins championships (note: this was Harrison’s original reason for trading Doncic).”
The Mavericks currently rank last in offensive efficiency across the league, with a noticeable gap compared to other teams. ESPN reporter McMahon commented on his podcast that such a disastrous start has led many within the league to question whether basketball operations president Nico Harrison might be dismissed early.

“A reasonable question now is: Is Nico Harrison’s job seriously at risk? That’s definitely a valid question,” McMahon said. “Clearly, Mavericks fans have been hoping for a positive answer since early February. I don’t have a definite answer right now — all I can tell you is this. But it’s certainly a reasonable question. When you talk to people in the league who follow the Mavericks, that’s the first question they ask. Harrison took a huge gamble by making one of the most unpopular trades in NBA history.”
As McMahon pointed out, ever since Harrison shockingly decided to trade the team’s cornerstone Doncic to the Lakers in exchange for trade assets centered around Anthony Davis, he has been under intense scrutiny.
Team reporter Tim Kawakami believes the Mavericks’ current roster suffers from poor fit and injuries, while Doncic is thriving with the Lakers. Team owner Patrick Dumont should listen to the fans — who have been calling for Harrison’s dismissal ever since the trade was completed.
Two of the Mavericks’ former iconic figures have both expressed dissatisfaction —

Dirk Nowitzki, now an Amazon Prime analyst and Mavericks legend, spoke candidly about the team’s poor start. “I feel sorry for Mavericks fans; it’s a disastrous beginning. Obviously, there are gaps at the point guard and playmaking positions... problems creating and finishing shot opportunities. They can’t make shots or organize the offense... No one can hit shots. Watching these games is painful.”

Mark Cuban, who long served as the team’s principal owner and remains a minority shareholder, discussed the team’s struggles on a radio show. “You know, I’m not happy with the team’s roster construction; I think our lineup is unbalanced. The point guard position lacks depth and there aren’t enough players who can create shooting chances for teammates. So I never expected an 8-0 start, but I also didn’t expect 2-6 (note: record at time of Cuban’s interview).”
