Countdown: 1 month left! Kuminga eagerly awaits a trade to leave, believing the Warriors are seriously hindering his development.

On December 16th Beijing time, NBA reporter Mathur reported that sources disclosed Jonathan Kuminga is eagerly counting down, hoping the Golden State Warriors will trade him.

Kuminga’s trade restriction will be removed after January 15th Beijing time, leaving roughly one month to go. Sources indicate that the Warriors, now ranked eighth in the West, are expected to finalize a trade involving Kuminga this season. Since December 7th, Warriors head coach Kerr has not given Kuminga any playing time. This season, Kuminga has appeared in 17 games, averaging 12.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, with a shooting percentage of 43.8%, three-point accuracy at 32.0%, and free throw rate at 74.1%.

Sources added that the 23-year-old player had hoped to leave the Warriors during this offseason to join the Kings, but the Warriors were unwilling to agree to a sign-and-trade deal with Sacramento at that time. The Kings, currently ranked 14th in the Western Conference, are expected to pursue Kuminga again after January 15th.

During this offseason, Kuminga concluded a lengthy and complicated restricted free agency by signing a two-year contract worth $48.5 million with the Warriors. The second year is a team option, designed to allow Kuminga’s potential new team to void the original contract after this season and re-sign him.

As a player who already holds a championship ring, Kuminga currently ranks fourth in salary on the Warriors. On December 8th, during an interview in Chicago, he addressed being removed from the rotation by coach Kerr, stating he has “no complaints.”

“I have nothing to complain about,” Kuminga said. “I train every day and stay ready because you never know how things might change. I’m confident in my skills and happy with my current form. I just need to do what a professional player should do. Things are unpredictable; this has happened before.”

Sources reveal that Kuminga’s relationship with Kerr is strained, and he feels the Warriors have significantly blocked his growth. All signs point to a high likelihood that the Warriors and Kuminga will part ways after January 15th.

Kuminga was selected by the Warriors with the 7th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. Throughout his career, the wing player has averaged 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game.
