Thunder has a 12.4% chance to secure the first overall pick! Which future star will they choose among three prospects? The prototypes are McGrady, Roy, and Horford.

On December 16th Beijing time, the Clippers fell 103-121 to the Grizzlies, dropping their record to 6 wins and 20 losses. Because the Clippers’ 2026 first-round pick is owned by the Thunder, their dismal record is a big advantage for Oklahoma City. Tankathon’s latest data shows that this pick has a 47.7% probability of landing in the top 4 and a 12.4% probability of being the number one pick.

U.S. media reports that if the Thunder secure the first overall pick, they will be able to select any one of the three top rookies: AJ Dybantsa, Dalen Peterson, or Cameron Boozer. Of course, for other championship-contending teams in the league, the Clippers’ dramatic decline is a nightmare, as it means the Thunder have a strong chance to add another high-potential superstar.

The Thunder’s core lineup is currently in its prime. The 27-year-old Alexander is in the peak of his career. Jalen Williams will only turn 25 next April, Holmgren will be 24 in May, the breakout bench scorer Ajay Mitchell will be just 23 at season’s end, and Carson Walace is only 22 now. Beyond just the first pick, if the Thunder land a top-three pick, they can add another highly promising young star.

The top three prospects currently ranked are all regarded as having the potential to become future superstars.

AJ Dybantsastands 2.06 meters tall, weighs 95 kilograms, plays small forward, and his draft comparison is Tracy McGrady. On the well-known draft site NBAdraft, he received a perfect 10 for potential, with other high scores of 9 for athleticism, physique, defense, speed, leadership, and intangibles. So far this NCAA season, Dybantsa averages 20.9 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, shooting 55.5% from the field.

Cameron Boozeris 2.06 meters tall, weighs 113 kilograms, and plays power forward. His draft template is Al Horford. On NBAdraft, he scored 9 in categories such as physique, leadership, rebounding, potential, and intangibles. This NCAA season, Boozer averages 23 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, shooting 55.9%. He is the son of former NBA star Carlos Boozer.

Dalen Petersonis 1.96 meters tall, weighs 92 kilograms, and plays as a combo guard. His draft comparison is Roy. On NBAdraft, he earned 9s in physique, defense, shooting, and potential. Due to injury, Peterson has only played 4 games this NCAA season, averaging 19.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, with a shooting percentage of 52.8% and a three-point rate of 42.3%.

If the Thunder can acquire one of these young stars, their chances of building a future dynasty will undoubtedly increase. Do you think the Thunder will continue to compete for the championship this season? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
