Major signing announcement! Hello, Zeng Fanbo! Goodbye, NBL!

It’s finally over, and everything has been settled.

Beijing team has officially renewed the contract with Zeng Fanbo, and the only remaining step is for the Brooklyn Nets to submit a clarification letter to FIBA to register him for the new CBA season.

Zeng Fanbo replied that the delay in signing was because of family issues, and many things are not as the rumors say... Details are as follows:

It is reported that Zeng Fanbo reached a three-year B-level contract renewal with Beijing, having previously declined an offer from the Illawarra Hawks in the Australian NBL league.Previously, Zeng Fanbo had signed an A1-level rookie contract with Beijing, and according to the rules, the original club holds exclusive signing rights for the player’s B-level contract.

Zhao Rui, Chen Yingjun, Zeng Fanbo, and Zhou Qi form arguably the strongest domestic "Big Four." Beijing currently leads the league with a 3-0 record this season and is the top contender for the championship.

However, considering Zeng Fanbo’s long absence from competition—he has only played three games in nearly seven months (NBA China preseason with the Nets plus two World Cup qualifiers)—he will need time to regain his form. During this period, his performance might be less than ideal, so understanding and patience from Beijing and the public are necessary.

If Zeng Fanbo can quickly return to form, it will be crucial for himself, Beijing team, and the national team. The Chinese men’s basketball team suffered two consecutive losses against South Korea in the first window of the World Cup qualifiers, and on February 26 next year, they will face Japan away, followed by a match against Chinese Taipei on March 1.In the former, he is expected to continue playing a key role at the small forward position, especially since Wang Junjie, who plays in the NCAA, will not be available.

Actually, Zeng Fanbo showed significant improvement last season, performing excellently for both the national team and his club. He averaged 14.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.5 steals per regular season game, and in the playoffs, 15 points, 4.2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1.6 blocks per game. He was named Most Improved Player and selected for the domestic best first team. Unfortunately, his momentum was halted by a transverse process fracture in his lumbar spine during Game 2 of the semifinals this year.

Fortunately, at only 22 years old, Zeng Fanbo still has enormous potential to develop, and his future remains full of endless possibilities. His peak moments are just beginning.
