It has begun! Thank you, Trae Young! A major NBA trade is about to happen.

Something big is coming, though it’s not unexpected.

Insider Shams reports:Trae Young and his agent team are in talks with the Hawks about a trade.

In fact, last offseason when the Hawks didn’t propose a four-year, $229 million max extension to Trae Young, and since he has a player option this summer to reject it and become a free agent early, it was widely expected they would separate by mid-season.

By the way, the Hawks are fortunate to have found their new star in Jalen Johnson, who is currently averaging 24 points, 10.2 rebounds, 8.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this season. As for Trae Young, the former Hawks leader, he averages only 19.3 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 8.9 assists, and when he plays, the team’s winning percentage is 20%, compared to 55.6% when he doesn’t.

Also, the Hawks hold the Pelicans’ 2026 unprotected first-round pick (Pelicans are at the bottom of the Western Conference with a 14% chance at the top pick), so they could secure a top draft pick this year to build the team’s future alongside Jalen Johnson.

The question is, which team is most likely to take on Trae Young? The Rockets, who desperately need a point guard and are eager to contend?

No.

The latest news indicates thatthe Wizards are a potential destination for Trae Young (who is earning $46 million this season), with the trade centered around CJ McCollum’s expiring contract worth $30.67 million.

If Trae Young is indeed traded to the Wizards, who are near the bottom of the Eastern Conference, the whole league can breathe easier since it won’t affect the current championship landscape.

Born on September 19, 1998, Trae Young is a 1.88-meter point guard, the 5th overall pick in the 2018 first round. By his second year, he was averaging an impressive 29.6 points and 9.3 assists per game, and in his third year, he led his team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Before this season, he had three consecutive seasons with 25+ points and 11+ assists, once the prized asset of the Hawks, but now the rookie has overtaken the veteran.

The NBA evolves rapidly nowadays; a slight lapse can lead to being left behind, showcasing the brutal survival of the fittest in this league.
