Warriors to pursue two major superstars this summer! Going all out to trade for Giannis and aiming to sign LeBron to team up with Curry

On January 23rd Beijing time, according to reporter Fischer, sources disclosed that if Bucks star Giannis becomes available for trade, the Warriors intend to actively participate in discussions regarding him this offseason; at the same time, the team is considering another option — bringing LeBron James together with Stephen Curry after LeBron attains full free agency on July 1st.The Warriors view these two superstars as potential acquisitions capable of reshaping the franchise’s future trajectory.

The relationship between Curry and LeBron has long evolved. From 2015 to 2018, the two faced off in four consecutive Finals, but now their rapport has significantly improved. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, they joined forces to help Team USA secure the gold medal, showcasing on-court chemistry that revealed the huge potential of this former rivalry turning into a partnership — a duo once thought impossible.

Curry’s contract runs through the 2026-27 season, and his performance level shows no signs of decline. The Warriors believe that pairing Curry with either Giannis or LeBron could extend the team’s championship window.

Regarding Butler, who previously suffered an ACL tear, the Warriors currently have no plans to trade him.Sources say the team intends to fully support this veteran’s rehabilitation. Since joining the Warriors last February, Butler has played a leadership role in the locker room and demonstrated a strong sense of belonging to the team, earning high regard from management. Especially as the team navigates the Jonathan Kuminga situation, Butler’s presence is even more vital.

The Warriors have stated that they would only consider trading Butler if a player from a “superstar shortlist” explicitly names Golden State as their preferred destination. According to reports, the team has no interest in trading Butler for Dallas Mavericks’ Davis.

Objectively, the Warriors expect that the earliest opportunity to acquire Giannis or LeBron would be during the offseason.Unless a true top-tier star actively seeks to join forces with Curry, the team will not lightly initiate trade discussions involving Butler.

In fact, as early as the 2024 trade deadline, the Warriors were linked to trade rumors involving LeBron. At that time, Draymond Green first proposed the idea to the team’s owner and management, and subsequently communicated with Rich Paul, the agent representing both himself and LeBron.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob also had discussions with Lakers owner Jeanie Buss on the matter. Buss clearly stated that the Lakers had no intention of trading LeBron but suggested the Warriors could directly negotiate with LeBron’s agency team.

LeBron and his agent Paul both expressed a preference to remain with the Lakers. Lakers GM Rob Pelinka confirmed the team would never trade their core player. In the 2024 offseason, LeBron signed a 1+1 contract with the Lakers, which included a no-trade clause. However, since the Lakers declined to offer a renewal last offseason, LeBron’s current contract is in its final year, making his future uncertain.

Additionally, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s contract expires at the end of this season, but he remains open to staying with the team, hoping to accompany Curry through the final years of his career.
