NBA Official: Nuggets vs. Grizzlies and Mavericks vs. Bucks Postponed Due to Severe Weather Conditions

On January 26th Beijing time, because of a strong winter storm affecting much of the U.S., the Nuggets vs. Grizzlies and Mavericks vs. Bucks NBA regular-season games scheduled for today were both postponed, with the rescheduled dates to be announced separately.

The NBA announced less than three hours before the game that due to harsh weather conditions in Memphis, the match would be rescheduled. Since early Saturday morning local time, the Memphis area has been experiencing a mix of sleet and freezing rain, continuing into Sunday morning. Both the Nuggets and Grizzlies players, along with the officiating crew, had arrived in Memphis, but the game was ultimately postponed.

Freezing rain accumulated on power lines and trees in the Memphis region, causing widespread power outages and road closures. The combination of icy precipitation and frigid temperatures led to refreezing on the roads, prompting local authorities to advise residents to stay indoors as much as possible.

The Nuggets stated that their departure time will depend on weather and operational conditions at Memphis International Airport. According to the current schedule, the Nuggets are set to host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday Beijing time, while the Grizzlies will play an away game against the Rockets on Tuesday Beijing time.

Additionally, per the original schedule, the Milwaukee Bucks were to host the Dallas Mavericks at 8 a.m. Beijing time today. However, the Mavericks were unable to arrive in Milwaukee Saturday night local time and remain stranded in Dallas. The NBA also officially announced that this game is postponed due to severe weather, with the makeup date to be announced later.

Reporter Stein noted that meanwhile, the Lakers plan to fly to Chicago this afternoon local time to prepare for tomorrow’s game against the Bulls. Currently, they are also stuck in Dallas.
