
On January 27th Beijing time, during the CBA regular season, Shanghai triumphed over Guangzhou 95-78 at home, overcoming a deficit of up to 15 points to complete a comeback and halt Guangzhou’s three-game winning streak.
Shanghai’s Lofton posted 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 blocks; Wang Zhelin added 25 points and 10 rebounds; Li Hongquan contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds. For Guangzhou, Wiggins scored 17 points, Holiday had 16 points and 5 rebounds, and Liu Yancheng put up 14 points.
In the first quarter, Guangzhou started strong with sharp three-point shooting, as Liu Yancheng and Holiday hit three consecutive threes, and Wiggins completed a 2+1 play, giving Guangzhou a dream start with a 12-0 lead. Li Hongquan then aggressively scored under the basket, finally ending Shanghai’s scoring drought. However, Guangzhou’s outside shooting remained potent, with Wiggins, Chen Guohao, and Zhang Xingliang hitting successive three-pointers, helping Guangzhou close the quarter leading 27-13.
In the second quarter, Wang Zhelin’s inside scoring ignited Shanghai’s counterattack. With Li Yongwei’s successful long-range shot and Lofton’s relentless drives, Shanghai launched a furious comeback, tying the game at 43. Wang Zhelin’s put-back basket helped Shanghai take a 47-45 lead by halftime.
During the third quarter, both teams remained evenly matched early on, with the score tied at 55. Holiday fired from outside, Yuan Zhaoyao and Holiday attacked inside; Lofton and Li Yongwei showed their mid-range strength, Fogg scored from beyond the arc, and Li Hongquan continuously attacked the basket. Shanghai gradually took control, finishing the quarter ahead 72-69.
In the final quarter, Wang Zhelin’s powerful inside offense proved overwhelming for Guangzhou. After Wang scored a successful layup, Shanghai led 87-74, marking Wang’s career milestone of 10,000 points, making him the sixth player in CBA history to reach this achievement. Following Lofton’s put-back and Yuan Tangwen’s three-pointer, Shanghai extended their lead to 95-74. Shanghai maintained their advantage for the remainder of the game, securing the victory as desired.
