Approved! The 9th overall pick, a genius! The Spurs may be about to lose their first player.

Reporter Stein:The Spurs have permitted Sohan and his agency to find a new destination to enable a trade.

This season, Sohan has become little more than a waterboy for the Spurs, playing 27 games all as a substitute, averaging just 13.1 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1 assist per game. He has been outperformed by forwards such as Champagne, Barnes, and Johnson, resulting in scarce playing opportunities.

This guy was born on May 20, 2003, stands 2.03 meters tall with a 2.12-meter wingspan, and was the 9th pick in the 2022 first round. He was once a key development focus for the Spurs and was even tried out as a point guard, similar to the Mavericks’ 2025 top pick Flag currently.

However, Sohan’s ball-handling skills are painfully poor; forcing him into a point guard role only backfires.

Considering that before this season, Sohan consistently averaged 11+ points, 6+ rebounds, and 3+ assists per game each season, and at only 22 years old still holds potential to develop, switching teams might finally unlock his talent. Since the Spurs no longer need him, it’s better to trade him for some assets.

Let’s see which team is interested in Sohan? So far, only the third-place Knicks from the East have shown interest.

If they can’t trade him, it’s not a big deal. Sohan is in the last year of his contract this season with a salary of $7.31 million, and will become a restricted free agent this summer. The Spurs can just let him leave then.

Up to now,the Spurs hold a 31-15 record, ranking second in the Western Conferenceand this year they are not only likely to secure a direct playoff spot but also have a chance to contend for the championship. Their group of young talents has finally started to rise.

It’s worth mentioning that after three years in the NBA, Wembanyama has yet to play in the playoffs. Fans are eager to see how this “alien,” who has mastered Shaolin kung fu, will demonstrate his dominance on the big stage.

In his NBA career so far, Wembanyama has played 149 regular-season games, starting 140 of them, averaging 30.6 minutes per game, and putting up 22.9 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 3.5 blocks. Undoubtedly, he is one of the best two-way players in the league today, if not the best.
