On February 5th Beijing time, the Cavaliers played against the Clippers, with Harden and Garland both unavailable. Prior to the match, Cavaliers head coach Atkinson gave an interview discussing Garland and Harden.

“Garland has truly shone during his time with the Cavaliers. He is unquestionably an elite player who has made significant contributions. He has great character and is an excellent point guard,” Atkinson said. “But now, we are eagerly anticipating Harden’s arrival — he brings a completely new dimension to our lineup. Clearly, he is a very different type of player compared to Garland, but his track record speaks for itself. We can’t wait to fight alongside him and integrate him into this new squad.”

A reporter asked, “In the official statement, Kobe (Altman, Cavaliers president) also mentioned his excitement about you partnering with this uniquely styled star to pursue a new championship goal. Do you think Harden’s arrival could enhance the team’s competitiveness?”
“Absolutely, Harden’s standout strength is his basketball IQ — his understanding of the game. We firmly believe that such a high basketball IQ will help the team advance further in the playoffs. Additionally, I want to add that as a point guard, his physical advantages are very noticeable. His exceptional height not only helps him better connect teammates and elevate those around him but also allows him to step up and score when the team needs it. These qualities I just mentioned are invaluable assets that can play a crucial role on the playoff stage.”

Atkinson also stated that he has already reached out to Mike D’Antoni for advice regarding Harden and hopes to reactivate the dominant form Harden showed during his time with the Rockets.
According to earlier reports, Harden is set to make his Cavaliers debut on February 8th against the Kings.
