The player with 10 NBA All-Star appearances has a new destination just a year after signing with the Dallas Mavericks.
Dallas Mavericks have reached an agreement to trade the 10-time NBA All-Star center - Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in a major deal involving 8 players and multiple draft picks in the NBA Draft. This move is considered a strategic step to maximize financial and roster flexibility as Dallas focuses on building around promising rookie Cooper Flagg.
According to sources, the Mavericks will send Anthony Davis along with guards Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum to the Wizards. In return, Dallas will receive Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks, and three second-round picks in future drafts.
The Mavericks' decision to part ways with Anthony Davis comes amid a major restructuring of the leadership and long-term strategy. Since firing former CEO Nico Harrison in early November, Dallas has actively put "AD" on the market. This decision is linked to the intense backlash from fans following the controversial trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers last season.
Anthony Davis, the central figure in the blockbuster trade involving Doncic, had limited contributions to Dallas due to recurring injuries. The 32-year-old center has played only 29 games since joining the Mavericks and is currently sidelined with a left hand ligament injury. Next season, the 32-year-old forward will earn a salary of $58.5 million, with a $62.8 million player option for 2027-2028.
For the Wizards, acquiring Davis demonstrates their ambition to accelerate the rebuilding process. Previously, Washington also added Trae Young to their roster, although the guard is still recovering from injury. The Wizards' management emphasizes their commitment to preserving young talents like Alex Sarr, Bilal Coulibaly, and Tre Johnson — all of whom were not included in this trade.
