On February 26th Beijing time, Hawks newcomer Kuminga shared on social media a clip of his first dunk in his Hawks career, adding the caption: "The show is about to start! The Warriors really messed things up!" Despite deleting the post quickly, numerous fans saved screenshots.

In his Hawks debut, Kuminga came off the bench for 24 minutes, shooting 9 of 12 from the field, 3 of 4 from three-point range, scoring 27 points with 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, finishing with a +16 plus-minus. He set a season-high in points and was seen grinning widely throughout the game, clearly very happy.
Kuminga obviously vented his frustration with the Warriors on social media, but after the debut game, he remained very composed, especially when responding to a reporter’s question about a "statement game," showing considerable restraint.

The reporter asked: "Throughout the season, rumors about you have been nonstop, both good and bad. Now that you’ve finally confirmed your new team and know where you’ll be playing this season, plus your performance tonight, do you consider this a statement game? Whether for your former team or the Atlanta fans?"
Kuminga replied: "No, I wouldn’t call it a statement. I know everyone has their own opinions, and I don’t pay much attention to what others say. At the end of the day, we’re here to win as many games as possible. Our window to win is small, so we have to take every win, no matter how. That’s my main focus, and it’s the focus of everyone on this team. We keep saying we have to play team basketball and get the wins. That’s what matters most. Even if I only take two shots and score two points, as long as it helps the team win, that’s enough."
