Luka has beaten cancer! A heartwarming story between Ant and a young fan: He still wears that orange wristband.

On February 27th Beijing time, the Timberwolves' official social media posted a picture with the caption: "Luka has beaten cancer!" The NBA's official account reposted it: "Congratulations, Luka!" This "Luka" is a young fan of the team. His story with Anthony Edwards has touched many people.

In early January 2025, the Timberwolves star met the 6-year-old fan Luka, who was battling leukemia at the time. Luka gave Edwards an orange "Love Like Luka" wristband. Edwards promised then that he would wear it every single day for the rest of his career.

Edwards also invited Luka to meet his teammates, and the 6-year-old handed out wristbands to everyone. Although Luka was a bit shy around the players, he left a strong impression on the entire Timberwolves team and became part of the team's story.

Edwards promised the young fan he would keep wearing that orange wristband. When Edwards hoisted the All-Star MVP trophy in Inglewood, California, Luka and everyone who knew the story behind the band saw it still on his left wrist.

The 6-year-old told Edwards that the number 5 held special meaning for him because he was diagnosed with cancer at age 5. Edwards has worn the number 5 since eighth grade to honor his mother and grandmother—both of whom passed away from cancer on the 5th.

"It means everything to me... I love Luka," Edwards said when asked about the moment with his young fan during a press conference.

On February 21st local time, Luka's family shared the uplifting news: "Today's the day! Luka beat cancer!" Follow-up community posts showed the leukemia survivor celebrating with loved ones. When Luka met Edwards, he brought a poster board listing his two wishes: 1. Beat cancer, 2. Become the next MJ (Michael Jordan). Now his first wish has come true.

Edwards might not have been there in person to celebrate with Luka, but his continued wearing of that orange wristband shows he has always remembered and cared.
